How We Test
This page explains the process behind every scored review on PlaylistM3U โ what we install and use, the criteria we score, the rating scale, and how we keep reviews up to date.
Our Testing Process
- Install and set up. Where a player or app can be installed by a normal user, we install it from the official store or source and set it up the way a first-time user would, following only official instructions.
- Load real content. We load real M3U playlists and Xtream Codes logins, including large playlists, so that channel switching, search, favourites and EPG behave under realistic load.
- Use it on real devices. Testing runs on the platforms the product targets โ Fire TV, Android TV, iOS, smart TV and desktop โ not on a developer machine only.
- Record the findings. We note performance, stability, feature gaps, setup friction and cost as we go, and keep screenshots and notes as evidence.
- Write and review. The article is drafted from those notes, then checked for accuracy, dead links and out-of-date version numbers before it is published.
What We Measure
Scored reviews are judged against the same criteria so results are comparable between products:
Playback quality
Stream startup time, stability and how the player handles HD, 4K and weaker connections.
Format support
M3U, M3U8 and Xtream Codes support, EPG handling and subtitle/codec compatibility.
Features
Favourites, search, catch-up, multi-screen, recording and customisation.
Interface & setup
How quickly a new user can install, load a playlist and start watching.
Performance
Load times, memory use and behaviour with large channel lists.
Value
What you get for the price, including whether the free tier is genuinely usable.
The Rating Scale
Scored reviews use an explicit 10-point scale, shown on the page itself. A score of 9 or above means an editorially recommended product with no significant weaknesses; 8 means strong with minor limitations; 7 means usable with clear trade-offs; below 7 means we would not recommend it for most readers. We do not award a score to products we have not been able to use, and pages without a score carry no rating markup.
How Often We Update
Apps, prices and services change, so reviews carry a visible "Updated" date that reflects the last real revision, not the last time the page was built. When a product receives a major update โ a new version, a pricing change or a service interruption โ we re-test and re-date the review, and can revise the score.
Independence and Disclosures
PlaylistM3U is an independent editorial site. It is an affiliate partner of two IPTV providers (StrongIPTV and FavIPTV), and any page that links them carries a visible affiliate disclosure. Commercial relationships never change a rating, and we publish critical findings โ including about products we link to. We do not sell, host or operate any IPTV service, and our free-playlist pages link only to open-source sources rather than re-streamed paid channels.
Corrections and Contact
